Policy on the use of Artificial Intelligence
With the rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (AI), the journal has established rules for its use in manuscript preparation and the peer review process. The editorial board will review this policy as technology continues to evolve.
Use of AI by authors
Authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscripts, including any parts created or processed with the help of AI. Since AI is not a legal or moral entity, does not hold copyright, and cannot be held accountable for its actions, it cannot be listed as an author or co-author.
Permitted uses
No declaration required. The following uses of AI are considered technical support tools and do not need to be disclosed in the manuscript:
- Grammar and spelling checks, as well as paraphrasing to improve readability.
- Assistance with literature searches and organization of sources (provided the author subsequently verifies all references).
- Preparation of an abstract based on the author's own text, provided the author has reviewed and approved the final version.
Declaration required.. If AI is used for any of the purposes listed below, this must be disclosed in the Methods section (or an equivalent section). The following information should be provided: the name of the tool, its version, the developer, the purpose of use, and the extent of its application. Authors are responsible for verifying all facts, quotations, references, and data generated by AI, as well as for thoroughly reviewing all generated content:
- Use of AI algorithms for data processing (provided the methodology for such analysis is clearly described in the manuscript).
- Use of AI to create or optimize code (provided the code has been verified by the author).
- Creation of graphs, charts, or diagrams based on the author's own data, as well as schematic illustrations of concepts. In such cases, this must be indicated in the figure caption, specifying the tool and version used.
Prohibited Uses
- Presenting text generated wholly or partially by AI as the author's own original work.
- Creating fictitious research data or results, or presenting synthetic data as real.
- Including AI-generated references to non-existent works.
- Compiling text, images, or data protected by copyright without proper rights or citation.
- Creating photographs, realistic images, or scientific illustrations (such as micrographs, experimental images, or drawings).
Violation of the above requirements may result in return of the manuscript to the authors without review, rejection of the manuscript, or retraction of an already published article.
Use of AI by Reviewers
Manuscripts under review are confidential documents. If AI tools are used in preparing a review (for example, to verify formal aspects), this must be stated in the review text. Reviewers are prohibited from uploading the manuscript or any part of it (text, data, images) into generative AI tools, as this may compromise the authors' intellectual property.
Permitted Uses
- Verification of formal aspects, such as checking references and citation accuracy, provided the tool does not require uploading the full text of the manuscript.
- Assistance with wording, grammar, and structure of the review text itself, provided the content of the evaluation and scientific critique are formulated by the reviewer.
Prohibited Uses
- Uploading authors' personal data or confidential information to publicly available AI services.
- Uploading the manuscript or any part of it to publicly available AI services or any tools that may use the data for training or store it on external servers.
- Using generative AI to formulate scientific assessments, conclusions, or recommendations regarding the manuscript.
